Rocky Star made his debut as the founder of his self-named fashion brand in 1995, and since then, has created beautiful, luxurious collections for men and women.
SS20 season, Rocky Star showed a collection that told the tale of an evening in the Indian summer. Inspired by his own cultural heritage, the designer put up a spectacular show that represented the moments of blooming of the bougainvillea- the empress of the garden of Mughal.
“It all started from the headpieces” says Rocky, referring to the fuchsia turbans worn by the models on the runway. “After the headpieces came the inspiration for the rest of the collection, it was a beautiful journey of creativity”.
Floral motifs decorated the majority of clothes, including a series of draped dresses and beautiful skirts. The juxtaposition of styles and the originality of deconstructed suits created a sublime ensemble. The ivory embroidery on the soft-pink tunics recalled the delicate art of 18th Century Indian decorations, whilst the use of sequins gave light to the pieces.
The audience felt instantly teleported to a world of tulle, delicate satin, linen and Chanderi cotton that created ruffles, floating trains and layering.
As a final comment, Rocky said “my collection tells the story of a feeling, it’s all about that amazing feeling people have when the day goes into the afternoon and the afternoon falls into the night. The self-on-self texturing that appears both in day and evening wear in the collection are made to represent that feeling”.
